OCD Therapy in Los Angeles
Specialized treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder using ERP and Inference-Based CBT. In West LA and throughout California via telehealth.
You Don't Have to Live Ruled by Obsessions
OCD is more than intrusive thoughts. It's an exhausting cycle of doubt, anxiety, and compulsions that can quietly take over your daily life. Whether your OCD shows up as checking, contamination fears, harm obsessions, relationship OCD, or purely obsessional themes, it is highly treatable with the right approach.
At Sol Shine Wellness Group, our therapists specialize in gold-standard, evidence-based treatments for OCD: Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT). We work with adults, teens, and families across Los Angeles and California.
OCD Looks Different for Everyone
Contamination OCD
Fear of germs, illness, or spreading harm to others, leading to excessive washing, cleaning, or avoidance of everyday objects and places.
Harm OCD
Intrusive thoughts about accidentally or intentionally hurting yourself or others, often accompanied by intense guilt and checking behaviors.
Checking & Symmetry
Repeated checking of locks, appliances, or actions, or a need for things to feel 'just right' before anxiety can settle.
Relationship OCD (ROCD)
Persistent doubt about your relationship, your partner's feelings, or your own love, driving constant reassurance-seeking and mental reviewing.
Scrupulosity
Religious or moral obsessions, fear of sinning, offending God, or acting unethically, that interfere with faith, relationships, and daily functioning.
Pure O (Purely Obsessional)
Intrusive thoughts without visible rituals, but with significant internal compulsions like mental reviewing, reassurance-seeking, and thought suppression.
OCD in Teens
OCD often first emerges in adolescence. We offer developmentally sensitive ERP and I-CBT for teens, with family involvement as appropriate.
OCD Co-occurring with Eating Disorders or Trauma
OCD frequently co-occurs with eating disorders, anxiety, and trauma. Our integrated approach addresses both conditions simultaneously.
The Gold Standard for OCD Treatment
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
ERP is the most extensively researched and effective treatment for OCD, recommended by the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF). Rather than avoiding feared situations or performing compulsions to reduce anxiety, ERP gradually and systematically exposes you to anxiety-provoking triggers while supporting you in resisting compulsive responses.
Over time, your brain learns that the feared outcome doesn't occur — and that you can tolerate uncertainty and discomfort without compulsions. This process, called inhibitory learning, rewires the OCD cycle at its root.
What ERP Looks Like in Practice
Assessment
We map your specific obsessions, compulsions, and avoidance patterns to build a personalized exposure hierarchy.
Psychoeducation
You'll learn how OCD works, why compulsions maintain the cycle, and how ERP interrupts it.
Graduated Exposures
Starting with lower-distress situations, we work up your hierarchy at a pace that is challenging but manageable.
Response Prevention
You practice resisting compulsions — both behavioral and mental — while sitting with uncertainty.
Generalization
Skills are applied across settings so gains hold in real life, not just in session.
Targeting the Doubt at the Root of OCD
Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT)
Inference-Based CBT is a newer, evidence-supported approach that targets the specific type of reasoning that drives OCD. Rather than focusing primarily on exposures, I-CBT helps you understand and correct the 'inferential confusion': the way OCD hijacks your imagination to create doubt about things that aren't actually happening.
I-CBT is particularly helpful for individuals who struggle with purely obsessional OCD, those who find traditional ERP difficult to engage with, or those whose OCD is heavily driven by 'what if' reasoning and narrative doubt. It can be used alongside ERP or as a standalone approach.
How I-CBT Differs from Traditional ERP
- Focuses on the reasoning process that creates obsessional doubt, not just the content of the obsession.
- Helps you distinguish between real sensory experience and OCD-generated imagination.
- Reduces the need to engage with feared content directly, making it accessible for those with high-distress obsessions.
- Builds a stronger sense of self separate from OCD identity.
Our Integrated Treatment Approach
We don't take a one-size-fits-all approach. Your therapist will work with you to determine whether ERP, I-CBT, or a combination is the best fit, taking into account your OCD subtype, history, and personal goals.
ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention)
The gold-standard behavioral treatment for OCD, targeting the compulsion cycle through graduated exposure.
I-CBT (Inference-Based CBT)
Addresses the faulty reasoning and doubt-creation process at the core of OCD.
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
Builds psychological flexibility and values-based living alongside OCD symptom reduction.
EMDR
Used when OCD co-occurs with trauma or PTSD to address underlying traumatic memories.
Family-Based Support
Guidance for family members on how to reduce accommodation and support recovery.
